An increase in the weight of deliveries has led BM Catalysts Ltd to invest in a bespoke loading platform to help improve yard efficiency and safety.

The company, Europe’s largest manufacturer of Catalytic Converters, DPFs and Front Pipes, is now regularly receiving deliveries of heavy items which cannot be easily manoeuvred. As such, a solution was required to allow the easy transfer of goods whilst also ensuring staff safety.

After researching various options, BM Catalysts approached Thorworld Industries.

James Saunders, Project Manager at BM Catalysts Ltd, explains, “We required a solution that fit into a particular corner of our yard – a corner which is not the standard 90 degrees – to allow for the maximum amount of space for vehicle movement. Thorworld’s ability to create bespoke Loading platforms and yard ramps, together with their reputation for quality and speed of installation, were key factors in choosing them as a supplier.”

Thorworld and BM Catalysts worked closely together to create the bespoke solution which maximised the use of space within the yard to ensure items could be moved without any risk to the workers.

“We are always striving to improve our processes as the business continues to grow, both in terms of productivity and health and safety, and as the weight of our deliveries increased we knew we needed a more robust and reliable way of dealing with them,”
continues James.

“Although it is still early days, the ramp is doing exactly what we hoped it would and we are confident it will come into its own when the weather worsens. Previously we have been unable to unload in snow or ice due to health and safety concerns in using forklift trucks. However, the ramp will allow us to provide a continuous service, which is crucial to any business, whilst the non-slip coating will help keep our staff safe during all weather conditions.”
