Logistics BusinessConstructor Chosen For Heathrow Skyline Project

UK construction firm, McLaughlin & Harvey has been appointed main contractor of the multi-million pound Skyline Heathrow project by property developer SEGRO.

McLaughlin & Harvey, whose previous infrastructure experience includes projects at Aberdeen, Prestwick, Sumburgh and George Best Belfast City airports, will be on site from the end of January 2016. The contractor will deliver two industrial units totalling 154,000 sq. ft. which will be adjacent to the international hub London Heathrow Airport.

The high quality facility will include two Grade A distribution and logistics warehouse units of 73,500 sq. ft. and 80,400 sq. ft. with first and second floor office accommodation. Each unit will have HGV parking, five dock level loading doors and 2 – 4 level access doors. There will be 140 car parking and 50 cycle spaces across both units.

Targeting a “Very Good” BREEAM rating, the sustainable buildings will feature solar thermal collectors and air source heat pumps.

Andy Ferguson, operations manager at McLaughlin & Harvey, said: “To be awarded this prestigious contract next to the world’s busiest airport is testament to the reputation we’ve built up for delivering high-quality largescale warehouse developments.

“The facility offers a fantastic option for businesses wanting fast access to the cargo terminal at Heathrow, and we expect the hub will attract some high profile brands.”

McLaughlin & Harvey has recently been confirmed as principal contractor at London Luton Airport delivering the redevelopment and expansion of the airport terminal.

The warehouse units will be completed and open to business in summer 2016.
