Tevva Motors has officially opened the order books to owners and operators for its innovative electric range extender powertrain as a retrofit package to any make and model of 7.5t truck.

The package involves the replacement of a vehicle’s existing engine and gearbox with Tevva’s brand new electric range extender powertrain. This consists of a single 120kW electric motor, capable of producing 1800Nm (1325 lb ft) from zero rpm, 66kWh batteries, mounted on the chassis, an efficient range extender unit, which uses a small capacity diesel engine to generate additional charge whilst on the move, and Tevva’s patented Predictive Range Extender Management System (PREMS).

Tevva says that the package improves a vehicle’s driveability and driver comfort while reducing emissions and running costs. The volume capacity is unaffected, thanks to the smart packaging of the new powertrain.

The powertrain has been under development and a rigorous testing regime since 2014, with thousands of test miles completed on UK roads and hundreds of hours spent in the test cell. It has also been tested at the world-famous Millbrook Proving Ground, exceeding all performance expectations.

The retrofit package is already in daily use with major logistics operator UPS, fitted to a Mercedes-Benz Vario delivery vehicle. The vehicle has been in daily operation in London since November 2015.

Tevva was also recently recognised at the prestigious Rushlight Awards, receiving a commendation in the Powered Transport Award category.

Asher Bennett, CEO and Founder of Tevva Motors, commented; “Today’s announcement is a reflection on the hard work of my team who have built and developed a robust, reliable, environmentally friendly powertrain that can be fitted to almost any 7.5 tonne truck. The package enables older vehicles to meet the most stringent emission requirements, providing a second life and re-using vehicles which are still fit for purpose.”
