The chemical and pharmaceutical industry is one of the strongest business sectors in Hesse with about 60,000 employees, more than €25 billion in sales and an export quota of almost 70%. More than 10,000 students are currently enrolled in courses related to chemistry, pharmaceuticals and biology. Many global companies in the sector have established their headquarters in this federal state. They all require highly modern locations, with industrial and logistics parks that have a good transport infrastructure and are managed by experienced teams. One new location that is currently being brought to completion is the pharma-logistics park of Alpha Industrial (www.alpha-industrial.com).

“Pharma-logistics buildings must meet increasingly stringent requirements,”
said Ulrich Worner, technical director at Alpha Industrial. “In order to guarantee the securement of temperature-controlled and refrigerated areas as well as the safe storage of water-polluting substances and hazardous materials, it is becoming increasingly important to plan buildings and the related equipment precisely in advance,” said the long-standing expert and project developer for modern logistics property for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.

End of October 2015, around 30 managers and business leaders from regional and national manufacturers and logistics service providers were given the opportunity to see this for themselves first hand. They followed an invitation to visit the site from the German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (BVMM) and Alpha Industrial, which is the developer and owner of the high-tech park. On site, they obtained detailed insights into how to ensure faster, safer and more efficient pharma-logistics.

In the course of the subsequent tour of the second building section, which provides 22,500 sqm of space and is currently under construction, the participants also learned more about the gas motor heat pump project, which was Germany’s largest in 2014. The equipment has been in operation at the pharma-logistics park since July last year. With this technology, Alpha Industrial has implemented an energy-efficient and cost-saving alternative for temperature-controlled warehouses.
