Logistics BusinessNew Warehouse Software Systems for Swiss Pharma Specialist

The Galenica Group, headquartered in Switzerland, has invested in cutting-edge logistics IT: its two subsidiaries Galexis and Alloga, part of the Services Business sector, will rely on modernised system landscapes for processing their specialised pre-wholesale and wholesale distribution services. In the distribution centres of the pharmaceuticals wholesaler Galexis as well as those of the pre-wholesale company Alloga, the integration of uniform software landscapes based on SAP has begun. In this context, the logistics software specialist and certified SAP partner inconso was commissioned to implement a highly efficient warehouse management solution.

The new, uniform software platform for the sites Niederbipp, Lausanne-Ecublens and Burgdorf encompasses the integration of the ERP system SAP S/4HANA as well as the standardization of the logistics IT for all warehouse logistics processes by means of SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management). inconso AG will perform a step-by-step replacement of the previous WMS with SAP EWM. Warehouse processes and interaction with the involved IT systems will be standardized at all sites in subsequence, together with the fully integrated implementation of SAP S/4HANA, the next generation SAP Business Suite.

The warehouse at the site of Galexis in Niederbipp is a high tech warehouse equipped with various automated conveyor technology components, such as automated stacker cranes, automated picking and a complex transfer system for containers. Alloga’s warehouse at the site Burgdorf includes, among other things, a 12 aisle manual high bay warehouse (HBW), an automated container warehouse, flow racks and automated lifts. The quantity framework is sophisticated. The current system’s maximum values are approximately 89,000 line items per day. Only two outbound delivery peaks a day are sufficient to cross-dock approximately 4,000 boxes per hour.

From the distribution centres in Niederbipp and Lausanne-Ecublens, Galexis distributes over 100,000 products (pharmaceuticals, parapharmaceuticals, OTC medications, medical technology as well as cosmetics) to pharmacies, doctors’ offices, drugstores, nursing homes and hospitals. The pre-wholesale company Alloga provides warehouse, logistics and distribution services for large vendors and, through them, supplies wholesalers, hospitals and pharmacy chains across Switzerland.
