Logistics BusinessAccreditation Process Made Easy with Risk Management Support

Somerset (UK)-based Jays Logistics has teamed up with the risk management company, Risk Evolves to gain the internationally recognised quality standard accreditation ISO 9001 for the business.

The transport company, which is based in Highbridge, delivers pallets and containers across the UK and Ireland. The pallets contain goods ranging from beauty products to compost supplies. Its clients include Hinkley C Power Station. Jays Logistics employs 90 staff at its Somerset site.

Operations Director, Paul Phillips said the company was increasingly being asked for international accreditations around quality standards and assurance when tendering for new business. He said it was important to get the right accreditations to take the business forward.

Mr Phillips said he chose Warwickshire based Risk Evolves as the partner for the work because its team took the time to understand what they needed rather than simply trying to sell them a one size fits all.

Mr Phillips said: “ Tendering for new business is no longer a tick box exercise. You have to have the highest standards to get through. If you don’t then potential clients – particularly the bigger companies like Hinkley Point C – want to know why you don’t.

“ISO 9001 is a structured and internationally recognised system. The Risk Evolves team made the whole process simple to understand and to put in place. It was a lot less painful than I had expected. As a result we are working with them in future on other aspects of the business too from health and safety to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) which comes into force in May next year.”

Managing Director of Risk Evolves, Helen Barge said businesses are often put off taking the next step in terms of accreditation because they worry about the additional burden on their time.

Ms Barge said: “ We know how hard it is to take time out to do the additional pieces of work – like accreditations – which will take companies to the next step in terms of winning new business. As a result we make the process of gaining accreditations like ISO 9001 as straightforward as possible.
