Logistics BusinessWoodland Media takes a bigger bite out of the Big Apple

The Woodland Group’s continued success in the publishing logistics sector has prompted a move to larger premises in New York.

Woodland Media – which provides specialist logistics services to the print and publishing sector – has opened a 22,500 sq ft warehouse facility in Kearny, New Jersey, located just minutes from Newark Liberty International Airport and headed up by manager Phil Friend.

The warehouse boasts an in-house Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF), allowing Woodland to offer customers a more efficient and cost-effective service. The company expects the facility to handle at least six million kilos of export air freight in 2015.

Woodland claims to export more books from the US than any other freight forwarder and has built a solid reputation in the industry. It has served the book trade for more than 20 years and in 2009 received an award from the British International Freight Association, in recognition of its growth in the sector.

Adrian Blackman, executive vice president of Woodland, said: “This move enhances our distribution capabilities in the US and delivers greater efficiencies for our clients.

“With the opening of our own CCSF, we enjoy total control over our customers’ shipments. We build our own airline pallets here in New York and they are broken down by Woodland staff at Heathrow for onward shipment.

“All shipments are scanned when they enter the New York facility and we offer access to our state-of-the-art web track system, as well as value-added services such as consolidation and order assembly.”

The Woodland Group provides freight forwarding and logistics services by air, sea and road and offers a range of specialist services for niche sectors. In the US, Woodland has offices in New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles. For more information, visit www.woodland-group.com.
