Logistics BusinessMenlo Secures ISO 13485 Status for Specialist Handling of Medical Devices

As further evidence of its proficiency in the medical device sector, Menlo Logistics, (Menlo), the global logistics and supply chain management unit of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW) has achieved ISO 13485: 2003 for its Eersel (Neth.) facility.

The International Standard sets specifications for a quality management system where an organization demonstrates its ability to manufacture or control and handle inventory management of medical devices and related logistics services while complying with applicable international regulations governing the supply and distribution of medical devices, and consistently meet customer requirements.

Menlo’s Eersel site in the east of the Netherlands provides logistics and supply chain management services to two divisions of the Getinge group, which is a leading global provider of equipment and systems to the healthcare and life sciences industries. ArjoHuntleigh, the division specializing in medical equipment for those with reduced mobility and its corporate sibling Maquet, also a producing of high-end medical devices, both benefit from Menlo’s professional abilities dedicated to the specific supply chain needs of sophisticated healthcare medical supplies.

Commenting on the attainment of the ISO 13485 standard Menlo’s Senior Director of Business Development, Arthur van Gerven said, “Both quality assurance and regulatory compliance are essential for a logistics company offering supply chain services to the medical device sector. Therefore, we are pleased with the ISO accolade. Menlo, however, believes success in this sector also involves a sharing of similar cultures with our business partners. In the case of our Eersel customers this includes a mutual dedication to Lean continuous improvement practices as well as a commitment to quality and compliance.”
