Logistics BusinessCountrywide turns to Ryder to optimize fleet

Ryder has optimized the direct delivery fleet of Countrywide Farmers by boosting payload capacity with the addition of nine DAF LFs and Iveco Dailies to its fleet on contract hire.

Two DAF LF 12 tonners have replaced 7.5 tonners, and six Iveco Daily 7 tonners and one Iveco 7.5 tonner have replaced a mixture of 3.5 and 7.5 tonners. The increases in payload are helping Countrywide to increase delivery capacity, while reducing operating costs.

Countrywide Farmers is the UK’s leading supplier of products and services to the rural community. It is the largest equine products supplier, as well as the largest independent supplier of LPG. The company has 53 nationwide locations and operates more than 65 vehicles from 14 vehicle operating centres.

“We carried out trials with Ryder before working with their team on the design and specification of these new trucks,”
comments Darren Moor, Countrywide’s operations and compliance manager. ” Our objective was to boost payload without significantly increasing the size of the vehicles in our fleet.

“The Iveco 7 tonners have proven extremely impressive, and custom-designed Alloy Bodies gas bottle carriers have a payload of 3.8 tonnes. This is significantly more than the 3.5 payload of the trucks we previously operated, and we will be able to deploy them without increasing our vehicle footprint or limiting vehicle access.

“Overall, we have achieved significant cost reduction benefits by working with Ryder due to increased payload capacity, reduced delivery times, and improved service and back-up support from its large, national network.”

Ryder spokesperson Robin White, sales and marketing director, concludes, “Our vehicle design team worked closely with Countrywide Farmers to produce specifications that optimised both delivery schedules and load requirements and as a result the customer now enjoys significant cost reductions compared with operating previous vehicles. We look forward to a long and healthy working partnership with Countrywide Farmers and helping the company continue to grow and expand.”
