Logistics BusinessArvato launches Healthcare business at new logistics centre in Gennep

Arvato Healthcare is taking a targeted approach to further expanding its European network for Healthcare services. Around 9,000 square metres of warehouse space, specially designed to meet the demands of the Healthcare business, is currently being set up in the new multi-user warehouse in Gennep, the Netherlands. The logistics centre, which has a total area of 30,000 square metres, was originally opened in March 2016 to serve Arvato’s High-tech and Entertainment division. From this summer onwards, Arvato Healthcare will carry out various services for its customers from the Gennep site, including the distribution of medical devices to destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The Gennep site will initially have a total of 1,200 pallet locations and 1,500 shelving rack bays available for storing these products. These include medical devices and cardiology and endovascular equipment such as heart catheters and heart valves. As well as distribution, Arvato’s Healthcare experts will be responsible for transport management (inbound and outbound), order management, the direct supply of hospitals, returns management and cash collection.

“We are developing the new site in response to increasing demand from international customers for centralised logistics warehouses in Europe. In addition to this site, we are opening new distribution centres this summer in Alcalá, Spain, and in Calcinate, Italy”
, says Freek Ebberink, Project Manager Expansion at Arvato Healthcare. “From Gennep we can distribute products across Europe in just 48 hours”, adds Ebberink. The distribution centre in northern Limburg provides the ideal conditions for this: Its central location in Western Europe, right next to the logistics hotspot of Venlo-Venray, as well as the excellent infrastructure links, makes Gennep one of the top-performing logistics sites.

The site is also setting new standards with regard to security. “The site is TAPA A certified – the highest level for the transport and logistics sector – and is also an AEO (Authorised Economic Operator). It will also comply with high quality standards in accordance with ISO 9001 and 13485 by 2017”, explains Carsten Thiemt, Director of Quality Management at Arvato Healthcare in Europe.

“In order to be able to grow further and serve our existing clients as well as new clients, we are currently working on extending the warehouse by early 2017”
, says Martijn Nielen, Vice President of Arvato SCM Netherlands, who is in charge of the site. A total of 20,000 square metres of additional warehouse space will be available to Arvato in Gennep by then. There is great potential for growth at the site: the overall area of the distribution centre can be increased to up to 70,000 square metres.
