Logistics BusinessDelivery Provider Reacts to Cross-Border Online Retail Growth

GLS Ireland has introduced the FlexDeliveryService for international e-commerce. In 14 countries in Europe, the parcel service provider now says it offers recipients of goods from Irish online shops “convenient delivery options”.

Cross-border online retail is experiencing double-digit percentage growth in Europe, and Irish web shops are among those benefiting from the trend. Orders from mainland Europe are becoming more important, which is reflected in international parcel dispatch. “Up to now, most of the deliveries from Ireland have gone to the UK,” says Andreas Rickert, Managing Director of GLS Ireland. “Since last year, Belgium has developed into the most important export country for our customers.”

With the FlexDeliveryService, GLS informs recipients in advance when their parcel is due to be delivered. If there won’t be anyone at home, the parcel can be diverted even once it is on its way. On request, GLS can deliver on a specific date, to a new address – for example at work – or to a GLS ParcelShop. In many countries, recipients can grant permission to drop off parcels on their premises. In such a case, the delivery will be left at the agreed secure location.
