Hellmann Healthcare Logistics launches temperature controlled packaging solution
Hellmann Healthcare Logistics, the new vertical solution of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has teamed up with temperature controlled packaging specialists, Cool Logistics India Pvt. Ltd, to develop a specialist solution for its airfreight services from and within India.
Pharmaceutical supply chains have become more complex over recent years due to a focus on globalisation and outsourcing strategies by many multinational pharmaceutical companies. Companies look actively at opportunities for growth in emerging markets and this has had a direct impact on their supply chains, namely longer lead times whereby consignments are handled by a number of stakeholders, across multiple regions with variable ambient temperatures.
These primary distributions are a significant risk to the manufacturer as they tend to be higher in volume, both in shipment size as well as in monetary terms than secondary distribution.
With temperatures reaching up to 50C in the summer and a lack of temperature controlled holding and storage facilities available, maintaining temperature at 2-8C and 15-25C is one of the biggest challenges in India and the choice of the right packaging is an integral part of the pharmaceutical supply chain strategy. It is for this reason that Hellmann Healthcare has consulted with Cool Logistics to introduce a new, locally manufactured passive temperature controlled packaging solution.

“Clients will supply us with a profile of where their consignment is leaving from and going to. We then simulate this situation in one of our test chambers to test the packaging solution will maintain its correct temperature. We have a longstanding history with Hellmann Healthcare Logistics and with the launch of our new facility in India as well as Hellmann’s growing presence there, we will continue to maintain this relationship.”
Hellmann Healthcare’s packaging solution in India is to cater for the transportation of goods via airfreight in the pharmaceutical supply chain. Maintaining a temperature controlled supply chain from the beginning to the end of the distribution is key. Cool Logistics is working with Hellmann Healthcare in the design and validation stages, through to the manufacturing of the temperature-controlled packaging itself.
