Goodman and DHL Freight join forces on 12,270 sqm cross docking facility in Nuremberg Harbor, South Germany

Munich – Goodman Group (ASX: GMG), the integrated global property group which owns, develops and manages industrial and office space, and DHL Freight, one of the leading logistics service provider, today announced the development of a 12,270 sqm built to suit logistics facility in Nuremberg Harbor.

DHL Freight, the transport solutions division of DHL is expanding and optimizing its logistics network in the Nuremberg area to respond to the rapid growth of its business.

Goodman will develop a built-to-suit 12,270 sqm cross docking facility comprising a 9,975 sqm distribution facility with 98 loading docks and 2,295 sqm of office space. The facility will have an internal free height of 6.55 m and a load bearing capacity of 50 kN/sqm. It will be located on a 5.2 ha plot of land providing a rail way siding and ample manoeuvre space for trans-loading activities including container storage, unloading of incoming trucks and loading of outbound trailers.

Over the past few years, Goodman developed close to 270,000 sqm for the DHL group in Germany, Benelux and the Asia Pacific region. Werner Knan, Regional Director Logistics Goodman Germany says: “This agreement is a continuation of our strategic global relationship with DHL. We are very pleased to further support them in expanding their business at this prime location.”

The cross docking centre will be installed in Nuremberg Harbor. Nuremberg is, after Munich, Bavaria’s second largest city. Bavaria, Germany’s southernmost and most populated region, is a logistics gateway to Central and Eastern Europe. With its strong rail, road, water and air connections, Bavaria links north-west Europe with Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia as well as the more distant parts of southern and south-eastern Europe.

Nuremberg Harbor is South Germany’s largest logistics centre handling over 13 million tons of cargo annually. It holds 337 ha of logistics, industry and business sites and an integrated offering of logistics services provided by its 260 resident companies with 5,500 employees. The cross docking centre will be situated at 11 km from Nuremberg’s city centre and at 3.4 km from the A73 motorway - linking the site with an international road infrastructure network. The harbor features a trimodal container terminal and schedules the delivery of a new container terminal in 2009.

“Thanks to its geostrategical location, this freight port is well positioned to accommodate new investments in logistics real estate,” says Harald Leupold, General Manager of Nuremberg Harbor.

Works on the development started in March 2008. On delivery in July 2008, the warehouse will be placed in Goodman’s European Logistics Fund. DHL Freight will rent the facility from Goodman, whose specialist property teams will manage and maintain the building.
