Sharps awards logistics contract to Ryder Europe

Ryder Europe provides a tailored contract logistics solution for Sharps to ensure efficient delivery of product from the manufacturing plant in Bilston, Wolverhampton, to five central warehouse locations and then on to the customer’s home.

A team of thirty-two drivers and a fleet of 15 prime movers and 29 demountable bodies service the contract along with a management team of seven who provide planning and operational support.

Ryder Europe began working with Sharps in 1987 and has developed the partnership to provide an adaptable national delivery programme to reflect the changing levels of sales. The demountable body system was introduced to streamline production and reduce product handling and damage.

“Ryder provides a managed logistics solution for Sharps that is efficient, customer-led and cost effective”, commented David Hansen, Operations Director, Sharps. “We have been working together for a number of years and as a result have introduced solutions to manage sales levels and reduce product handling and transit damage on the one hand and on the other to provide delivery teams who can deal with Sharps’ customers positively and politely.”
