Goodman develops 36,000 sqm built-to-suit distribution centre for Metsä Tissue in Düren, West-Germany

Düsseldorf/Düren -- Goodman Group (ASX: GMG) the integrated global property group which owns, develops and manages industrial and office space, has announced its agreement with Metsä Tissue on the development and management of a 36,000 sqm built-to-suit warehouse.

Metsä Tissue is a leading supplier of tissue paper to households and large-scale consumers in Europe. As part of a total supply chain optimization process, the company is centralizing and consolidating several of its smaller distribution centres and up-grading its warehousing capacity in Continental Europe. The optimization process matches Metsä Tissue’s constant strive for sustainable operations and is proof of its commitment to the German Rheinland region -- creating job opportunities in the local communities.

Juhana Kalpio, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain from Metsä Tissue: “The consolidation of our warehouse network in Continental Europe will increase our supply chain’s efficiency and enhance our service towards customers. In Goodman, we have found a partner who understands our needs and responds to them with a cost efficient integrated property solution.”

Goodman will develop a 36,000 sqm warehouse with 250 sqm of office space on a 6.3 ha site in Düren, West –Germany. The site lies close to Metsä Tissue’s existing factory and at 8 km from the A4 motorway, at 35 km from Duisburg City Centre and 55 km from Cologne City Centre. Cologne/Bonn International Airport is at 65 km from the warehouse.

To match Metsä Tissue’s specific operations model, the warehouse will be equipped with 15 overhead doors. It will have an internal free height of 10 m and a superflat floor with a load bearing capacity of 80 kN/m². The development works on the facility start in June 2008. On delivery end of 2008, the warehouse will be placed in Goodman’s European Logistics Fund. Metsä Tissue will rent the facility from Goodman, whose experienced property teams will manage it for them.

Werner Knan, Managing Director Logistics for Goodman Germany, concludes: “As many of our customers, Metsä Tissue have realized the big impact of a lean supply chain on their operations. We are pleased to support them in the optimization of their warehouse network and enhance efficiencies towards their customers.”
