AFI-Uplift Wrap Up Tank Contract
These two AFI-Uplift scissor lifts have helped to carry out one of the UK’s biggest ever shrink wrapping jobs – involving two storage tanks each measuring 60m x 15m.

The AFI 9250 diesel scissors were hired by PK Marine Freight Services to shrink wrap the two tanks in a special waterproof membrane for long term storage at Ellesmere Port Dock before they are shipped to an overseas customer.

New cross belt sorter: SBIR Dynamic

Samskip has started an Intermodal service linking Rotterdam with Greece Samskip adds Greece to its pan-European multimodal network
Europes leading multimodal container operator Samskip has added Greece to the list of countries in Southern Europe that it now serves by road and rail. South Africa’s Transnet Port Terminals aims higher with 30 new Kalmar CSC straddle carriers
Kalmar Industries, part of Cargotec Corporation, has been awarded a contract by Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) of South Africa to supply 30 CSC440 straddle carriers for its operations at Durban Container Terminal (DCT) in the Port of Durban. The new order further strengthens the long-term partnership between the two parties and cements Kalmar’s position as TPT’s preferred supplier of yard handling equipment to South Africa’s busiest container port. The machines will be delivered starting in July 2008 with the final units arriving January 2009.

Mediterranean ports opt for Kalmar’s productive, eco-friendly RTGs to boost operations
The Mediterranean supply chain continues to invest in the container handling capacity of its Moroccan and Spanish ports by placing more orders for Kalmar’s all-electric rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes.

Kalmar has received an order for 10 E-One+ units from Somaport operating at the Port of Casablanca. The 7+1 wide and 1-over-5 high RTGs, outfitted with Bromma twinlift spreaders and Kalmar’s autosteering and container position verification system, Smartrail®, will be delivered by the beginning of 2009.

Latest Kombi uses RFID and Warehouse Management Systems to achieve 15 per cent gains
Jungheinrich has announced the introduction of a new version of its very narrow aisle EKX 513-515 Kombi order picker/stacker. According to Jungheinrich, the truck is capable of increasing productivity in a warehouse or distribution centre by some 15 per cent.

The original model in the range was launched last year and its clever use of RFID to enhance the truck’s performance and safety was enthusiastically received by truck users.

DB Schenker plans to purchase Romanian forwarder Romtrans
(Berlin, 24 September 2008) DB Schenker is aiming to acquire the entire shares in Romanian forwarder S.C. Romtrans S.A. and submitted a corresponding takeover bid to the Romtrans shareholders today through its Austrian subsidiary Schenker & Co AG. The deadline for acceptance of the bid is the end of October. Subject to the approval of the competent authorities, the transaction should be completed by December of this year. This acquisition is expected to consolidate the leading position of the Deutsche Bahn transportation and logistics division, which operates worldwide under the DB Schenker brand, as one of the top providers of global transportation and logistics services.

GreenCarrier strengthens its Baltic presence with the acquisition of Spedair
The Gothenburg-headquartered logistics specialist GreenCarrier International has strengthened its position in Eastern Europe and the Baltic region with the acquisition of Spedair, an independent Latvian transportation and freight forwarding company, for an undisclosed sum.

Spedair was established in 1998 and is based in Riga, Latvia. The company has subsidiaries in Kiev, Ukraine, and Minsk, Belarus, and has a worldwide network of agents.

Wärtsilä chooses CEVA Logistics to run its global spare parts transportation services
Today Wärtsilä, a market leader in diesel and natural gas engines, biopower solutions and complete propulsion systems and CEVA Logistics, one of the leading supply chain companies in the world, signed a cooperation agreement for the 24/7 global spare parts transportation management and “control tower” activities for Wärtsilä Services. The contract value is approximately EUR 32 million per annum over the next three years. The agreement follows Wärtsilä´s earlier announcement of its intention to centralize spare parts logistics and to build a Central Distribution Center facility in the Netherlands. The new operating model is planned to be fully implemented by 2011.
