German-owned haulage giant Willi Betz has taken delivery of 50 Schmitz Cargobull S.CS Freepost curtainsider trailers. The trailers will operate out of Willi Betz’s Derbyshire facility and will be used to transport automotive components on behalf of one of the company’s blue chip accounts.

Putting on a show
Specialist haulier, Luckings, has added an extra eight new Schmitz Cargobull Mega Box vans to its vehicle fleet. With the new additions Luckings, who specialize in the storage and transportation of equipment for the film and theatrical industry, now has over 30 Schmitz Cargobull trailers in its 100 strong fleet.

NYK Logistics (UK) puts PC World 'Roadmouse' through it's paces
NYK Logistics (UK) Ltd has taken delivery of PC World’s first ‘RoadMouse’ – a new aerodynamic trailer designed to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Designed by Don Bur, the unique ‘teardrop’ trailer has been aptly christened by Britain’s largest specialist chain of computer superstores, to reflect its resemblance to a giant computer mouse.

New 7 ton tow tractor from Jungheinrich
Jungheinrich has announced details of a new tow tractor that it plans to launch this summer. The EZS 570 will be built at the Group’s Specials Factory at Lüneburg, Germany, and will feature 3-phase AC technology to ensure that it combines excellent performance with high energy efficiency.

UK curtainsider and reefer sales up
In advance of the forthcoming Commercial Vehicle Show, Schmitz Cargobull (UK) Ltd has announced that in the first nine months of the 2007/2008 financial year, UK sales of Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated trailers were up 40 per cent on the whole of the previous financial year. Even more impressively, during the same period, the company almost doubled sales of curtainsiders to the UK market against 2006/2007’s figures.

VW buys Scania
The Financial Times report that in a complex deal, Porsche plans to increase its stake in Volkswagen and VW will increase its stake in Scania to a majority shareholding of 69%. The firm also holds a 29.9 % stake in MAN, which in turn has a 17% stake in Scania. The FT says 'the outcome to what VW wants at Scania and MAN is difficult to predict.'

MAN wins image ranking, Best truck brand in Germany
Germany’s fleet decision makers confirm that MAN Nutzfahrzeuge has the best reputation among all truck manufacturers. The recognition and image of the brand with the lion in its emblem rank gave it an uncontested 1st place. This is the result of a representative survey of 400 fleet decision makers in transport companies, forwarders, industry and trade which was carried out by the market research institute TNS Emnid on behalf of the weekly magazine VerkehrsRundschau.

Getting the chemistry right
Road and rail logistics provider The Potter Group has taken delivery of 12 new trailers from Schmitz Cargobull (UK) Ltd.
10 units carrying the Potter Group livery will be based at the Group’s distribution centres in Droitwich, Knowsley, and Ripon, while the remaining two will be in the livery of chemical company Sika, a leading client at Potter Group’s Droitwich facility.

Latest Kombi uses RFID and Warehouse Management Systems to achieve 15 per cent gains
Jungheinrich has announced the introduction of a new version of its very narrow aisle EKX 513-515 Kombi order picker/stacker. According to Jungheinrich, the truck is capable of increasing productivity in a warehouse or distribution centre by some 15 per cent.
The original model in the range was launched last year and its clever use of RFID to enhance the truck’s performance and safety was enthusiastically received by truck users.

DB Schenker plans to purchase Romanian forwarder Romtrans
(Berlin, 24 September 2008) DB Schenker is aiming to acquire the entire shares in Romanian forwarder S.C. Romtrans S.A. and submitted a corresponding takeover bid to the Romtrans shareholders today through its Austrian subsidiary Schenker & Co AG. The deadline for acceptance of the bid is the end of October. Subject to the approval of the competent authorities, the transaction should be completed by December of this year. This acquisition is expected to consolidate the leading position of the Deutsche Bahn transportation and logistics division, which operates worldwide under the DB Schenker brand, as one of the top providers of global transportation and logistics services.

GreenCarrier strengthens its Baltic presence with the acquisition of Spedair
The Gothenburg-headquartered logistics specialist GreenCarrier International has strengthened its position in Eastern Europe and the Baltic region with the acquisition of Spedair, an independent Latvian transportation and freight forwarding company, for an undisclosed sum.
Spedair was established in 1998 and is based in Riga, Latvia. The company has subsidiaries in Kiev, Ukraine, and Minsk, Belarus, and has a worldwide network of agents.

Wärtsilä chooses CEVA Logistics to run its global spare parts
transportation services
Today Wärtsilä, a market leader in diesel and natural gas engines, biopower solutions and complete propulsion systems and CEVA Logistics, one of the leading supply chain companies in the world, signed a cooperation agreement for the 24/7 global spare parts transportation management and “control tower” activities for Wärtsilä Services. The contract value is approximately EUR 32 million per annum over the next three years. The agreement follows Wärtsilä´s earlier announcement of its intention to centralize spare parts logistics and to build a Central Distribution Center facility in the Netherlands. The new operating model is planned to be fully implemented by 2011.
