GEFCO turns 60

Leading transport and logistics provider celebrates its 60th anniversary with ’60 Facts and Figures’

Paris, 15th December 2009 - GEFCO is celebrating 60 years of logistics experience this month. Founded in 1949 by PSA Peugeot Citroën, GEFCO has become one of Europe’s ten biggest logistics groups and a global leader in vehicle logistics.

The GEFCO story began in 1949, when Peugeot created a company called Les Groupages Express de Franche-Comté to operate its first transport link in France between Paris and Sochaux. Today, GEFCO has 25 subsidiaries and is present in almost 150 countries, and employs 10,000 people representing 70 nationalities

Over the past sixty years, the GEFCO group has become a logistics integrator with specialist expertise in manufacturing, specialising in outbound vehicle logistics (3.2 million vehicles in 2008), inbound logistics (55,000 shipments a day in groupage and part/full loads) and Overseas logistics. GEFCO has a fleet of 5 million handling vehicles and manages 40 million transport flows in Europe each year.

International expansion has been the key trend of GEFCO’s development. Firstly within Western Europe between 1970 and 1990, then outside Western Europe between 1999 and 2009. GEFCO is now represented across the globe, from China to the Czech Republic.

To commemorate sixty years of excellence in the Logistics sector, GEFCO has produced ‘60 Facts and Figures’, containing information about the company’s history, development and some facts that might surprise.
