Katrineholms Logistikcentrum to close major deal with Van Dieren
Dutch logistics company Van Dieren Maritime BV has now decided to establish a presence in Katrineholm. The company will build a hub for its mid/north Swedish operations at Katrineholms Logistikcentrum (Katrineholm Logistics Centre).
Today Dutch logistics company Van Dieren Maritime BV signed an agreement with Katrineholm Rail Point AB. As from January 2010 Van Dieren will ship goods via its own daily train shuttle between Germany and Katrineholm Logistics Centre.
The fast service only needs 19 hours to bridge the distance between Katrineholm (SE) and Herne (Ruhr - Germany). A daily departure in both directions will meet the high service demand of the shippers in both business regions. The traction of the train is done by the Swedish railway company Hector Rail AB. Their special equipped locomotives are able to drive all the way down to Herne and back again. This means no delays as a result of locomotive changes anywhere along the route. The kombi train will carry Huckepack (mega) trailers as well as 45 ft (curtain sided) containers. The in-house trucking operation is taking care of all the pre- and on carriage of the loading units.
Next to the terminal agreement Van Dieren Sweden AB, is also signing an agreement to buy a prepared 25,000 square metre site in the logistics area from Katrineholm Local Authority. Van Dieren Sweden AB intends to build a major cross dock and warehousing facility for both import and export goods in order to serve the customers in an even better way. The facility will allow Van Dieren to handle both full and part loads to and out of Sweden in an intermodal way.
“We intend to make a long-term commitment to Katrineholm and look forward to a good partnership with the local authority and Katrineholm Rail Point AB,” says Henk van Dieren, CEO of Van Dieren.
“We are extremely positive about Van Dieren establishing a presence in Katrineholm – yet another initiative which shows that the Katrineholms Logistikcentrum represents a good strategy and an important investment in the future,” says Göran Dahlström, chairman of the municipal executive board.
Erik Hellqvist, chairman of the board of Katrineholm Rail Point AB, states that his company is now initiating operations through a partnership with a highly respected, well-known European logistics company. “Katrineholm Rail Point could not have had a better start,” he says.
