Swisslog awarded major order by dairy group TINE

Buchs / Aarau, 4 December 2009 – TINE BA, Norway’s largest producer, distributor and exporter of dairy products, has commissioned Swisslog to design and implement a new distribution center in Oslo, Norway. The order value amounts to approximately MCHF 35.

The greenfield distribution center will be integrated with the existing production plant located in Kalbakken/Oslo. The new facility will support TINE’s objectives of enabling future growth and efficient logistics operations. “Our facilities need to perform strongly in order to meet the increasing competition. This project will secure the expansion of our logistics and production capacities for fresh food in eastern Norway,“ says Kjell Sårheim, CEO of TINE Meieriet Øst.

The order underlines Swisslog’s reputation as a leading supplier of state-of-the-art automated logistics solutions for the Food & Beverage industry. "We are pleased to have been entrusted by TINE with this demanding logistics project," says Ulf Wallin, Head of Swisslog’s Warehouse & Distribution Solutions operations in Scandinavia. The distribution center will feature two high-bay warehouses, pallet conveyors, an Order Release Module subsystem for automated dispensing of “blue trays”, a monorail system, and special pallets to handle roller containers, among other things. Swisslog will implement its own software products WarehouseManagerTM and AutomationManagerTM. Moreover, it will be responsible for the controls as well as the realization and overall integration of the warehouse logistics systems. The operational start of the facility is sequenced in three phases, with the first scheduled for early 2012.
