High-Quality End-of-Line Packaging Solution Protects Cocoa Powder
Barry Callebaut, one of the world's leading manufacturers of cocoa and chocolate products, required a packaging system at its Eddystone, PA facility that ensured safe transport of the cocoa powder filled in paper bags and stacked on pallets. The packaging of the bag stacks must combine low packaging costs with sufficient weather protection and high stack stability during transport and storage especially when the paper bags are stacked on pallets of two different sizes. Barry Callebaut engaged BEUMER to develop an end-of-line packaging system for these specific requirements.

DB Schenker Rail acquires majority stake in Italian NordCargo
DB Schenker Rail has increased its stake in the Italian rail freight operator NordCargo s.r.l. by a further 11 percent. The DB Schenker subsidiary had already acquired a 49 percent stake in NordCargo back in January 2009. It now owns 60 percent of the shares and consequently the majority stake in the company, which is domiciled in Milan.

Mitsubishi doubles its order for BLG vehicle transportation
Mitsubishi Europe has recently contracted BLG’s vehicle transportation division to distribute all vehicles from its Dutch production plant in Born to the German dealers’ network. The annual volume for this is approximately 15,000 vehicles, which are distributed by truck to all Mitsubishi dealers in Germany, and shipped for the Norwegian market via the BLG AutoTerminal in Bremerhaven.

Eddie Stobart already operates an extensive fleet of Schmitz Cargobull trailers and this latest order follows the acquisition in 2008 of 150 dual - and 100 single-temperature vehicles from the Schmitz Cargobull range.

The operator bought the 200,000sq ft former Gossard bra factory two years ago, initially turning the warehouse into an order fulfilment small-part pick facility, complementing their 6500 pallet space warehouse also in Leighton Buzzard.

Four Rotoplats speed the feed and seed
Research by Copdock Mill, based in Ipswich, a supplier of high quality pet and animal feed to clients throughout the South East and Midlands, has proved that the installation of four Rotoplat 507 pallet wrappers, from Aetna Group UK, was an excellent investment.

Derrick Ladbrook, distribution manager for Copdock Mill takes up the story, “We handle 150 pallets a day on average and, with 5,000 lines at any one time, the number of different products per pallet can vary enormously. So we needed machines which would be reliable, flexible and, most importantly, easy to programme for soft, hard or a combination of products.”
